the studio
Terrara Estate Ceramics began as a long‑held hope — a return to the tactile, grounding material Venetia has always loved. After stepping away from her corporate career, she came back to clay, choosing a slower, hand‑built practice that allows space for reflection, intuition, and a deep connection to the bushland surrounding the studio.
The studio itself was built in 2016 from reclaimed materials. Its walls are lined with old cedar weatherboards, turned backwards so the rough‑hewn timber faces inward. When you step inside, it is the scent of cedar that greets you first — warm, resinous, familiar — a quiet invitation into the space where each piece begins.
Set within the bush, the studio is immersed in the sounds, scents, and shifting light of the landscape. Eastern grey kangaroos, swamp wallabies, echidnas, koalas, and a chorus of birdlife move through the property, their presence a daily reminder of the living world that shapes the rhythm of making.
Weather is a constant companion here. With windows facing every direction, the studio feels each change in wind, each passing rain front, each shift of cloud and sun. These movements become part of the working day — subtle cues that influence mood, pace, and palette.
Above all, the studio is a place of creation. Its tranquility, its lightness, and its gentle, romantic character make room for the slow, attentive process of hand‑building. It is a space where Venetia can breathe, observe, and allow the work to unfold — one thoughtful piece at a time.
