the studio

Terrara Estate ceramics studio was something Venetia had hoped to make a reality. She stepped away from her corporate career and returned to the tactile clay she loves.

Venetia chooses to hand build her pieces. This slower approach means there is greater opportunity for reflection and connection with the natural beauty of the bush that surrounds her studio.

Terrara Studio was built in 2016 from reclaimed materials. The interior walls are lined with old cedar weatherboards turned backwards so the rough-hewn timber is exposed. When entering the studio, it is the smell of the cedar that first welcomes you into the space.

The studio sits with the bush surrounding it. The sounds, smells and beauty of the bush are a daily inspiration.

Local wildlife often come to visit - eastern grey kangaroos, swamp wallabies, echidnas, koalas and the myriad bird species we joyfully observe.

The weather is a constant presence in the studio - the space is intimate with windows in each direction making any change in wind direction, rain fronts, cloud and sun shifts all experienced profoundly.

Most of all the studio is a place of creation - the tranquility of its surroundings, the lightness of its construction and the romantic nature of the space all make for a place that Venetia can breathe and make room for the process of making.
