This vessel has been glazed in Chun. Chun glaze is a traditional Chinese glaze that originated during the Song Dynasty. It is characterised by its opalescent bluish colour with its dimensional quality shifting from greens to blues, to lighter amber browns depending on the thickness of its application and the nature of the form it is applied.
The use of Chun glaze in the interior is accentuated by narrow organic fluted indented lines which are further enhanced by the application of copper oxide over the top of the glaze before firing.
The exterior of the vessel has been glazed in white before the application of copper oxide in an organic and fluid design. During firing the copper oxide (black when applied) transforms into the green which can been seen on this vessel.
This vessel has been made using a clay containing melting minerals that develop a seductive surface with dark spots of different sizes and shades that stand out on an ivory-white surface.
